Donnie McClurkin

Donnie is a man who wants to see Jesus glorified and to see himself made just like Him, with Jesus' heart and compassion.

Donnie is also an associate pastor at Marvin Winan's 2000 strong Perfecting Church in Detroit. He has an inner strength that brought him through a difficult childhood of domestic violence and his parents abusing solvents. He found peace in the Gospel Tabernacle Assemblies Of God church where he committed himself to Christ as a nine year old. When he was ill as a youngster Andraé Crouch responded to a request from his Aunt who sang background vocals for Crouch. Andraé Crouch encouraged him to play the piano and kept in touch regularly.

Donnie was playing piano for the youth choir when he was only fourteen. By nineteen he formed the McClurkin Singers with his sisters and then the New York Restoration Choir that sang in prisons and on the streets. The latter ministered in prisons and on the streets. In 1983 Donnie attended a seminar lead by the Winans. He was asked to sing a song in the evening and Marvin Winans said they would work together - fulfilling a word Donnie had received two years previously. However, it wasn't until 1989 that he joined Marvin's staff. Donnie also headed the New York Restoration Choir.

Then disaster struck when Donnie was diagnosed with leukemia. He was very ill but Marvin Winans hit him on the chest and refuted the deadly illness. Just over two months later Donnie was completely healed.

Donnie has performed for both Presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton. He has also sang with Quincy Jones and Kenny Rogers.

In 2002 he founded the Perfecting Church in Long Island, New York, where he preaches the Gospel.

Donnie sang three songs in the 2004 Tom Hanks film 'Lady Killer', appeared on the hilarious film 'The Fighting Temptations'and will team up with Kirk Franklin in his first feature film for 20th Century Fox later in 2004. Donnie McClurkin won the 2004 Grammy for Best Contemporary Gospel for the recording 'Again...' and the Stellar Trailblazer Award which recognised his unique talent as a performer, writer and producer and role model for young people.
